Peace Council to Assess Views Gathered on US Peace Plan
National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib on Saturday said a 15-member committee of political leaders within the High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR) is expected to review the outcome of the assessments gathered on US-proposed peace plan by the State Ministry for Peace Affairs on Sunday.
“The assessments were conducted and we gathered views,” Mohib said. “We hope to reach a conclusion and then offer it to the grand meeting of the peace council.”
Meanwhile, Ata Mohammad Noor, the head of a new faction of Jamiat-e-Islami party called on the Afghan political leaders to attend the upcoming UN-led conference on Afghanistan from a unified stance and a single peace plan.
“We have a plan from the address of Jamiat-e-Islami. The plan is expected to be approved by the leadership council of Jamiat-e-Islami tomorrow. All views and perspectives of members of the leadership council of Jamiat-e-Islami and its supporters have been reflected in the plan,” Noor said.
Noor, who is member of the team that reviews gathered views on US peace plan, said that Jamiat-e-Islami has shared its perspective and plan with the US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad.
“It cannot be ensured that all ideas will be focused on a single axis and one plan, because some people want the absolute centralized (system) and some others want power-sharing,” Noor said.
A member of the peace negotiating team representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Hafeez Mansoor, said that discussions between influential factions in Afghanistan about agenda of the meeting in Turkey are underway in Doha.
“If there is going to be a reprimand, this will be on the president and his colleagues. Why they allow themselves to do everything they want at this sensitive juncture?” he asked.
Some political leaders have in the past described the upcoming conference in Turkey as important for a political settlement in Afghanistan.
