Regional spymasters meet on Afghanistan
Spymasters of some regional countries have exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
There has been no word yet from the government on the discussions, Pakistani media reported the meeting took place in Islamabad late on Saturday.
Russian, Chinese, Iranian and some Central Asian intelligence heads conferred on issues concerning security on the Durand Line.
Dawn quoted an unnamed intelligence source as saying” “The hosting of the meeting by Pakistan reflects our sincerity about peace in the region, including Afghanistan.”
Chaired by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed hosted, the meeting comes against the backdrop of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
A week back, the ISI chief had visited Afghanistan, where he held talks with Hezb-i-Islami head Gulbaddin Hekmatyar.
Also on Wednesday, CIA Director William Burns met Pakistan army chief Gen. Qamar Bajwa and ISI head Faiz Hamid.
Foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries and their special envoys also met in Islamabad recently to develop a common regional strategy for dealing with the events unfolding in Afghanistan.
