US special representative for Afghanistan embarks on trip to region
Thomas West, the US special representative for Afghanistan, announced on Tuesday that he has started his trip to Pakistan, UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to discuss political, economic and humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.
He will meet with key partners during this 10-day trip.
West wrote on the X that he will talk to the relevant authorities about the settlement and protection of immigrants.
His trip will last until 15 December.
“Traveling to Pakistan, UAE, Qatar, & Saudi Arabia December 5-15. Look forward to meeting with key partners to discuss shared security interests, refugee protection and resettlement, humanitarian needs, human rights, and economic issues,” West wrote on X.
At the same time as West’s trip began, on Wednesday an American delegation at the level Julieta Valls Noyes, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, visited Pakistan, where the issue of the deportation of Afghan immigrants was discussed.
Voice of America reported that Noyes, in a meeting with the special representative of Pakistan, requested them not to deport about 25,000 Afghan immigrants in Pakistan, who are waiting for resettlement in the United States.
American officials are also worried about the deportation of Afghan immigrants from Pakistan in winter.
Meanwhile, the World Bank said in a new report on Tuesday that the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Afghan migrants has created many problems for Afghanistan.
