Kabul ready to host meeting of special envoys for Afghanistan
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi and Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, have discussed and exchanged views on holding a meeting of special representatives of regional countries for Afghanistan in Kabul.
Recent bilateral economic developments between Afghanistan and Iran, expansion of diplomatic relations, facilitation of consular services for Afghan refugees in Iran, border security and increasing bilateral cooperation are among the other issues that have been discussed between the two sides, according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry.
“In the meeting, both sides said it was better to hold a joint meeting with the presence of special representatives of the regional countries for Afghanistan,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s embassy in Kabul said that in the meeting, Qomi expressed Tehran’s readiness to comprehensively expand cooperation and help the people of Afghanistan.
Based on the embassy’s statement, Muttaqi announced his readiness to host a joint meeting of special representatives of regional countries for Afghanistan in Kabul.
According to the statement, Muttaqi welcomed Tehran’s plan to form a regional contact group about Afghanistan.
