EU envoy and deputy interior minister discuss counter-narcotics

EU Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas Nicholson on Tuesday met with Abdulhaq Akhund, deputy minister of interior affairs for counter-narcotics, where the two sides discussed this issue of drugs in the country, the ministry said in a statement.

At the meeting, Abdulhaq Akhund said to keep future generations safe, the cultivation, smuggling and sale of drugs must be seriously prevented not only in Afghanistan but across the world.

The ministry quoted Nicholson as saying that the EU has announced cooperation in this sector.

“With mutual understanding, we should prevent the cultivation, smuggling and sale of drugs not only in Afghanistan but all over the world for the sake of the new generation. I ask you to cooperate with Afghanistan in supporting and treating drug addicts and farmers,” said Abdulhaq Akhund.

Earlier, Nicholson met with the acting minister of economy about the improvement of economic cooperation, and the continuation of humanitarian aid, and the need to focus on the implementation of development projects to create job opportunities.
