Sources: 11 Pakistani soldiers killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attack

At least 11 Pakistani soldiers were killed and two more were wounded in an overnight attack by militants from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local sources told Amu on Wednesday.

According to the sources, TTP fighters attacked a military post late Tuesday night and the fighting lasted for several hours.

The sources also said that several TTP fighters were killed during the clashes, though the exact number remains unclear.

Pakistan’s military has not yet commented on the incident.

The attack comes amid growing concerns in Pakistan about rising militant activity along the Afghan border. Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Taliban of sheltering members of the TTP, an allegation the Taliban government in Kabul denies.

At a regional meeting of the Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan held Tuesday in Russia, Pakistan’s envoy Mohammad Sadiq Khan raised concerns about the security situation and the presence of terrorist groups, saying they threaten cross-border trade and regional stability.

The TTP, an umbrella group of Pakistani militants with ideological ties to the Afghan Taliban, has intensified its attacks on Pakistani security forces in recent months, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

In response, Pakistan has stepped up military operations in the northwest and has also increased deportations of Afghan refugees, claiming some militants are crossing the border from Afghanistan — a claim Taliban reject.
