Taliban’s Red Unit deputy commander for eastern Kunar province has been killed and an Islamic State (IS) recruiter arrested in Nangarhar province, sources said on Monday. Kunar police spokesman Faridullah Dehqan told Pajhwok Afghan News that NiazSalim, deputy commander of the Taliban Red Unit, was killed by unknown armed men in Ganjgal area of Sarkano district late Sunday night.

A check-post commander in Kandahar city, the capital of southern Kandahar province, Haji Mohammad, was killed in a gun-attack on Sunday. The slain commander was brother of Gulalai Mohammadi, a lower house of parliament member from central Uruzgan province.

Unidentified gunmen have shot dead an instructor at the Police Academy in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, on Monday, a security official said.

An armored Land Cruiser belonging to the Italian Embassy was targeted in an early morning IED explosion in Kabul’s PD4 area in yet another targeted attack. This time there were no casualties reported, police confirmed.
