Taliban conducted attacks in 23 provinces: MoD
The Taliban staged attacks on a daily basis in at least 22 provinces of the country over the past week, says the Ministry of Defense (MoD).
In a statement on Friday, the ministry slammed the Taliban attacks as a violation of the spirit of a political settlement and opposed to the will of the people for peace.
The MoD statement said the Taliban conducted attacks and other disruptive activities in at least 23 provinces of the country over the past 24 hours.
Fawad Aman, deputy spokesman for MoD, said: “The Taliban have kept violence levels very high, which is against the will of the people.”
However, he added the Afghan security forces were responding forcefully to all militant attacks to ensure their safety and the security of the people.
“The Taliban have suffered heavy casualties as a result of counterattacks from the security personnel,” he claimed.
Last week, the Taliban attacked various areas in Nangarhar, Laghman, Nuristan, Ghazni, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Paktika, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Herat, Farah, Badghis, Faryab, Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Helmand, Kunduz, Baghlan, Takhar and Badakhshan.
