District police chief killed in Kunar roadside bombing

An Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Ranger vehicle was targeted in a roadside explosion on Thursday in Asadabad, the capital of eastern Kunar province.

The incident happened at about 11am and the target was the IEA’s Shigal district police chief, local officials said.

The Shigal police chief was killed and 11 others were injured in the blast, security sources said.

Doctors at Kunar provincial hospital also confirmed the incident, adding that 11 wounded, four of them IEA fighters, were taken to the central hospital.

The IEA has not yet commented about the blast in Kunar.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but Daesh (ISIS-K) has been behind a number of recent explosions.
