IEA FM Muttaqi meets with Qatari foreign minister

A high-level delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), led by Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, late on Saturday.

Foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said during the meeting both sides discussed bilateral relations, security, education and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, and issues of mutual interest.

The IEA delegation stated that security has improved in Afghanistan and that significant progress has been made towards good governance and education. They also expressed gratitude to the state of Qatar for its humanitarian assistance and called for continued cooperation.

Meanwhile, Amir Khan Muttaqi visited the Afghan Embassy in Doha and held a joint meeting with the embassy staff.

According to Balkhi, in the meeting, Muttaqi, the Minister of Education Sheikh Noorullah Munir and the Afghan Embassy chargé d’affaires Malekzai delivered speeches, encouraging the Afghan embassy staff to work hard.

Saturday’s discussions come ahead of next week’s talks between the IEA delegation and the US special representative Thomas West.
