JAMMU, July 11: In a significant success for police, the officials in Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts have succeeded in identifying “accurate locations” of around 40 militants from these districts in Pakistan and PoJK where they are operating as commanders of different militant outfits and trying to revive militancy across Jammu region especially their native districts.
“We have “exact locations and addresses” of 40 militants out of a total of 250 who are camping in Pakistan and PoJK from the three districts and trying to radicalize youth of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban to lure them into militancy,” police officials told the Excelsior.
The mobile and landline numbers being used by the militants have also been identified, they said.
At the same time, they said, Intelligence agencies continued efforts to trace locations and addresses of other militants and hopefully some more successes are expected shortly.
“The process is on. Our agencies are on the job. Shortly, we will be able to trace addresses and locations of more militants,” the sources said.
This will be used by the Indian Government (the Ministry of External Affairs) to convey to Pakistan that these militants are operating from such locations in Pakistan and PoJK and trying to revive militancy in otherwise peaceful districts.
Police is likely to produce charge sheet against some of these militants next week, they said.
Asserting that identification of exact locations, addresses, outfits and ranks of militants camping in Pakistan and PoJK is significant achievement of police and Intelligence agencies, sources said this will make very strong case not only against the militants but also Pakistan for sheltering ultras, giving them training and other facilities for carrying out subversive activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Already police and administration were completing formalities for writing to the Union Home Ministry for issuance of Red Corner Notice against the militants from three districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban who are camping in Pakistan and PoJK to ensure their repatriation to face trial here for masterminding terror acts in Jammu and Kashmir.
Few days back, police and Intelligence agencies had intercepted calls from the militants from Pakistan and PoJK made to youth in Doda and Kishtwar districts for radicalizing them and finally luring them into the militancy.
However, timely action by the concerned police have foiled plot of the militants.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Kishtwar Police today carried out raids at the houses of four more militants, who are operating from across the border and making efforts to revive militancy in Kishtwar district.
The raids were carried out at Mughal Maidan, Chatroo and Singhpora areas and were aimed at eliminating the militant ecosystem in the district by identifying various Over-Ground Workers and supporters of terrorism, the sources said.
They said the houses of militants identified as Jamal Din Naik alias Mudasir son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Sewa Chatroo, Gulzar Ahmed alias Javid son of Abdul Gaffar Malik of Rather Mohalla Kuchhal, Shabir Ahmed son of Gaffar Baig R/o Baig Pura Singpura and Gulabu son of Hashi, Gujjar of Rahalthal Mughal Maidan, who have escaped to Pakistan and are operating from there, were targeted in the latest round of raids in connection with a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The Special NIA Court in Jammu had on April 26 issued non-bailable warrants against 23 terrorists from Kishtwar operating from across the border. Earlier, non-bailable warrants were issued against 13 terrorists in the district.
The 36 individuals from Kishtwar went to Pakistan after joining the terror ranks over a period of time. Subsequently, two FIRs were registered against them after their involvement in terror activities surfaced during investigations.
Police and Intelligence agencies have identified 250 militants hailing from Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts who after their exfiltration to Pakistan and PoJK have been operating from there.
Maximum 118 such militants hailed from Doda district, 96 from Ramban and 36 in Kishtwar, sources said but added that not all of them are active as many have married local girls there and are doing small business or labour work while few others have died. However, a good number of them are active and trying to mobilize local youth in the three districts with the help of their old contacts to revive militancy.
