District police chief, guard killed in W. Afghanistan

A district police chief and his bodyguard were killed in a militants attack in west Afghanistan’s Farah province on Sunday, the provincial police chief said.

“The Taliban rebels launched multi-pronged offensive early today to overrun the headquarters of Pusht Rod district, but police returned fire and repulsed the attack. But unfortunately, the district police chief Amanullah Khan along with one of his bodyguards were martyred,” provincial police chief Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori told Xinhua.

Ghafoori noted that the Taliban militants fled away and the situation is under control.

Meanwhile, an official said three Taliban infiltrators joined the Taliban insurgents after killing four police including the police district chief of Pusht Rod early Sunday morning.

Neither the Taliban outfit nor independent sources have made comments.
