4 Al-Qaeda members among 15 killed in Helmand blitz

Four Al Qaeda members were among 15 militants killed during an airstrike in Nawa district of southern Helmand province last night, the Ministry of Defense said on Saturday.

The ministry in a statement said Taliban militants were planting landmines in Momin Khan area when security forces targeted them.

Four Al-Qaeda network members for the Indian subcontinent and 15 Taliban killed and three others wounded in the blitz.

The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.

On the other hand, National directorate of Security (NDS) announced capturing an Al-Qaeda member in a special operation in Zaranj city, the capital of southwestern Nimroz province.

The spy service in a statement identified the detainee as Khairullah, a member of Maulvi Anas group of Al-Qaeda network. Khairullah was involved in terrorist activities in the area.

The detainee was involved in assassination of Ganak district police chief and other security personnel.
