Car bomb hits Afghan Special Forces in Wardak

A car bomb attack caused casualties to Afghan commando forces in the Jalrez district of central Maidan Wardak province last night, a public representative said on Thursday.

SharifullahHotak, a member of the MaidanWardak provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan Special Forces had launched operations in some areas of Jalrez district.

He quoted local residents as claiming that the Afghan forces were hit by a heavy blast but they had no information about casualties.

A source in the military corps told Pajhwok Afghan News that search operations were underway in the Jalrez district and surrounding areas and that some areas had been cleared of insurgents’ presence.

“Our cargo type bulletproof vehicle hit a landmine which resulted in the killing of three of our soldiers,” the source added.

The Taliban confirmed the blast, saying 25 government forces were killed. The group spokesman, ZabihullahMujahid, said the fighters attacked Afghan Commando Forces in the provincial capital, Maidan Shahr and other districts of MaidanWardak province on Wednesday night.

Mujahid said 25 Afghan security personnel were killed in the blast including Shaker Andarabi and Abdul Jabbar and 10 others were wounded.
